What is timber frame?
Timber framing is a time honored, traditional method of joining heavy timbers with mortise and tenon joinery, secured with wooden pegs or “tree nails.” Timber framing has been practiced around the world for thousands of years, and continues to thrive due to its unique beauty and durability. Timber frame structures are built to last.

Why should I choose timber frame?

Building with timber can provide a livelihood for local loggers, sawyers and local crafts people. It keeps environmental impacts close to home and provides a structure that is both sustainable and timeless. Timber frames are not only extremely durable and aesthetically-pleasing, they lend themselves to the open concept floor plans that are so desirable. Without load bearing walls, you are free to design without constrictions.

What services does Champlain Timbercraft offer?

We build new timber frames whether it be a barn, home or pavilion. We also restore old barns, some more than two centuries old, giving them a new lease on life. We also have a portable sawmill and can provide timbers for the DIY artisan.
